No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...and if it occasionally gets a little heavier than what you had in mind, well...maybe chalk it up to forced consciousness expansion: Tune in, freak out, get beaten.
Imperfectly synthesized PCP has been reported to lead to distressful complications including coma and death. The usual preparation of both PCP and TCP employs the intermediate 1-piperidinocyclohexanecarbonitrile (PCC; I)4,8,9 which can be removed from the final product only with difficulty. The presence of variable amounts of this contaminant has been correlated with undue toxicologic side-effects10, and there is a need for an analytical procedure which would allow its detection.
Dangers associated with PCP use:
PCP has a remarkably negative popular image. This is partly due to the bizarre and violent actions that users may display, although PCP is probably just as likely to precipitate violence as society's favorite dissociative drug, alcohol. However, there is the definite potential to produce a mental state in which rational thought is entirely absent, resulting in strange and uncharacteristic behavior.
Although there is the possibility of violent and bizarre behavior associated with PCP use, this potential has been greatly exaggerated. Even in professional medical and law enforcement texts this is often apparent.
Most casual users of the drug do not experience such effects, but this potential should be realized. Because bodily sensation is dissociated and pain perception can be lost, users may lose track of their bodies and seriously injurie themselves. Therefore, it is wise to only consume PCP in the presence of another individual that is not intoxicated and can act as a "babysitter", preventing the user from inadvertently harming himself. Even with this precaution, it may be difficult to prevent a user from trying to walk into traffic, drive, or engage in other potentially harmful activity.
Drug Interactions:
PCP has sedative effects, and interactions with other central nervous system depressants such as alcohol and benzodiazepines can lead to coma or accidental overdose. There is also a profoundly synergistic interaction with THC. It has been noted among recreational users that smoking marijuana while under the influence of PCP can cause an extreme intensification and modification of the experience. Smoking more than a small amount of marijuana however, may lead to production of strong hangover-like symptoms.
Mortality/Morbidity
Doses of PCP exceeding 200 mg have resulted in death. The 2002 Mortality Data report published by DAWN listed Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and Baltimore among those US cities with highest PCP-related mortality rates (27 PCP related deaths were reported in Washington, DC, in 2002).7 A survey from 1981-1986 in metropolitan Saint Louis, Missouri, reported that 81 homicides, 13 suicides, 6 unintentional deaths, and 4 deaths of unknown causes were related to PCP intoxication.8
The major cause of death with PCP intoxication is behavioral disturbances that lead to self-destructive behaviors and impaired judgment, including self-inflicted injuries, injuries resulting from exceptional physical exertion, or injuries sustained from resisting physical restraints. Deaths from the direct effects of PCP intoxication are related to hyperthermia, renal failure, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), and rhabdomyolysis. In a study of 1000 patients with phencyclidine intoxication, rhabdomyolysis occurred in 25 patients and 10 patients developed acute renal failure.9,10

Huggybear schreef:"This tragic death brings the death toll associated with the killer drug Angel Dust to 19" Horen ze zelf wel wat ze zeggen...? Als ze eens de cijfers van alcohol ofzo erbij zouden houden, dan zou PCP opeens volksdrug nummer 1 worden omdat het zo "veilig" is...
